Last few days we have been having record temperatures. Yesterday it was 29 degrees! It feels good to not have to wear heavy clothing and in general too people around seem happier. Metro transit strike has finally ended with them getting 4000K bonus and all that.
It is sad that a union could hold the city ransom. Transit is also offering free rides till the end of March. The drivers are trying to be extra nice, but it doesn't cut. In fact, one of them has even gone ahead and yelled at a passenger yesterday for getting in from the back door. Yelling is nothing new but apparently he also passed racist comment assuming the passenger was Indian.
There was a new report about it on CTV but after that nothing. The local newspaper did not even pick up the story. Now that is honest. Everybody here, at heart, is racist. Just because the laws forbid it they don't say things. That is the drawback of being in a smaller city. People here feel threatened if somebody who does not look like them takes up their job.
The solution to all such problems would be: WORK HARD. Stop being lazy and nobody will take your jobs.
Have seen recent examples in office itself of people who do not want to work all 8 hours. One third of the time is spent chatting or on trivia. But you offer them overtime and they are will do it. The mindset is such that they feel they are doing a favour by working, if at all.
