UPS no go

Today I got my new Lenovo Ideapad. Looks like it has travelled the world before getting here. It started in Shanghai China, from there it went through, Osaka, Japan, Narita, Japan, Anchorage, Alaska, Louisville, Kentucky, Port Hope Ontario, Lachine Quebec and finally NS.

UPS lists all this but not in real time. Even yesterday it showed out for delivery while the guy had come and gone at 10.00am. Even today it still shows out for delivery. I guess the driver will go back and only then the status gets updated. How sad. With the technology it should be able to show immediately. For instance yesterday, by 10.00am if it was updated one would not have rushed home from work to find the yellow sticker.

Purolator is doing the deliveries for UPS here in Halifax. And how nice it would be if these couriers could give one a time window when the delivery would be made. So one does not have to stay home the whole day. It could be as simple as stating delivery by noon or delivery anytime between noon to 5.00pm or delivery after 5.00pm. Moreover, I think these guys don't even have a office in Halifax. It is in Dartmouth some place. But I may be wrong.

Laptop

After weeks of contemplating and research we have finally purchased an IBM Lenovo ideapad. September is moving typically in the sense, days are getting smaller, chilly nights and mornings and a general despair in thoughts about the forthcoming winter.

M has begun her basketball tryouts and today we also got a note from T stating that they "will" have Sunday skating. So M begins again this week.  At office things were a bit different as C has to HR and complained about being victimised. It  is really sad that despite trying my best to even get her permanent spot, she has gone and done this. Her mental imbalance is attributed to this behaviour, but we still have to address it.

In another news got to know that the other Bs have now purchased VW polo. That is great news. Otherwise trying to see the bright side the weather and the office when there isn't any.

September slosh

Well, into September now and back to the grind. School has begun for M. P is back in office and for me work is picking up. Yesterday we had gone to see U's mil in the hospital. She had a fall but luckily no broken bones. Later at night we invited K and U for drinks.

The temps are already falling and we are in the single digits at morns. Also, yesterday on way to Superstores, there was a scream moment. One of the trees on way had a red leaf. Fall is getting here and soon it will be depressingly cold.

Not that there is anything wrong with the cold. But, shovelling is what makes winters terrible. Lets see how this year goes.

बाकी बघू काय होते.

Swiss on the go

P came back yesterday. We had gone to pick her up with a detour to Susie's for couple of cup cakes. However, we did come home to keep them in the fridge before proceeding to the airport. Did not have much time there at the viewing gallery as the flight had arrived. Yet, after collecting P's lone bag we did get M an ice capp and she went up with P to show her reduced viewing gallery.
The beauty of this trip for P has been the impromptu visit to Zurich. She was in transit for over 6 hours there and she went out to the city. Apparently one does not need a visa or anything to do that. She enquired at the Info kiosk and they told her to buy a day pass, hop on a train and be in the city. She did just that, loaded with a city map and directions to which train to get there and come back.
At that early hour bakers were setting street side stalls to sell freshly baked breads and other Swiss goodies. Unfortunately, they would not take a credit card and P did not have any Swiss francs or Euros. Al;so, nobody wanted the USDs. So she walks on, hops on a tram, does the usual sight-seeing and is by then in need of washroom. Guess what, one has to shell out 2 SWF for that. Again no local moolah, it's a no go. P gets in the nearest McDonalds, buys a coffee and a something to eat and also gets to use the washrooms.
Soon the traffic starts picking up and she heads back to the airport using a combination of tram and a train and is now here, recalling her "touched my feet to Switzerland" tale.

August End

It is almost over. The summer, it came, was looked forward too and now it will be gone. Already the night temps have dipped to comfortable 10. Yes coming out of scorching, muggy 25s and 26s now even the 10 seems welcome.

P is in India, her mom had a bypass surgery and she is now providing moral and physical help for mil to come out of post op issues. We also had a trip to Boston earlier in the month. It was a typical Bhade trip. Extensive use of public transit right from landing at the Airport. It felt hectic and fruitful. We visited Harvard and all the spots that one is supposed to visit in Boston.

M put in lot of effort in chalking out an itinerary and having a game plan on reaching there. Most of it went as planned, however, we did skip Tapas planned for the last night with Indian food at Tantric. On this trip we also bought an iPad 2. The deal seemed good due to dollar rate and taxes in Mass. but unfortunately the thing would not to complete satisfaction and we had to be on the phone for tech support, which of course did not help.

Eventually it was shipped out by a store here and now we have a piece that is satisfactory. It has also been raining a lot the past few days. Also in India and the worry is that P has to fly back on Tuesday. Hope everything goes well. Here hurricane Irene is pounding US but hopefully it should pass over Canada by Monday. This time P is coming back via Zurich and Montreal.

More later, it is a lazy and lonely Sunday.
